Activities and facilities
Track and field activities for everyone
Costello Stadium features a 400m all-weather synthetic track built to international standards, ensuring both optimal performance and safety. The eight-lane track is complemented by a full range of field event facilities, including dedicated areas for long jump, high jump, pole vault, and the throwing disciplines.
Whether you are training for a competition, taking part in athletics, or simply enjoying a daily jog, the stadium provides the ideal setting.
Set within a green, welcoming environment, the stadium strikes a perfect balance between functionality and aesthetics. Its spectator stands provide excellent views of the track, helping create a vibrant and energetic atmosphere during competitions.
Costello Stadium spike rules -
- 1/4 inch pyramid 'cone shaped' and Christmas tree spike pins are permitted for use
- needle spike pins are not permitted
- the maximum spike length on the track is 6mm and maximum spike length on javelin is 9mm
Track refurbishment
The athletics track has now reopened following the most recent works, including the full replacement of the sub-base, running surfaces and line marking to the track. Other areas that have received improvements include long jump and pole-vault, track protection running rails and sand pits areas.
Detailed tracking of training and performance data for professional athletes and ambitious amateurs for integrated SMART training has been installed, which can be used alongside a smart phone placed in a running belt.
The athletics track has received Track Mark accreditation, administrated by UK Athletics, which ensures that the athletics facilities are safe and well managed. It also means competitions held at the facility will be recorded and officially recognised.
