Refurbishments
Ennerdale Leisure Centre will soon undergo a significant £750,000 investment to improve its energy efficiency, with works scheduled to begin this spring. These improvements will help secure the centre’s long-term future. To facilitate the upgrades, Ennerdale Leisure Centre will close to the public on Monday 19 May 2025.
The improvements at Ennerdale Leisure Centre are being funded by the government’s Sport England Swimming Pool Support Fund and will significantly enhance the centre’s environmental performance and financial sustainability. Works include upgrading the pool hall windows to highly efficient glazing and new pool covers, whilst wider works include a package of essential maintenance works including the repairs to the small pool to allow it to reopen to the public. Complementing this, we will commit funds through its capital budget to support planned preventative roof maintenance and the replacement of external doors.
To minimise disruption to customers, all works will begin simultaneously, with the centre expected to reopen in summer 2026.

If you are a regular customer at Ennerdale Leisure Centre we encourage you to visit our other leisure facilities in the city, which will remain open throughout this period. The closest Leisure sites to Ennerdale Leisure Centre is Beverley Road Baths and Woodford Leisure Centre.
Additionally, we will be relocating many of our activity programmes at Ennerdale Leisure Centre to other sites to ensure there is sufficient capacity for our Ennerdale customers.
