Ennerdale Leisure Centre - maintenance and building improvements update
Dear Customers,
As many of you will be aware, refurbishment works are currently taking place at Ennerdale Leisure Centre. This includes the full replacement of the original roof glazing, funded by Sport England, alongside essential repairs to one of the swimming pools.
Following further investigations as part of the pool refurbishment project, additional issues have been identified within sections of the pool pipework. As a result, the pipework now requires full replacement to ensure a reliable long-term solution for the facility.
Unfortunately, this means that Ennerdale Leisure Centre will remain closed beyond the end of 2026 while these additional works are completed.
We understand this will be disappointing news and would like to thank our customers, clubs and partners for their continued patience, understanding and support. These refurbishment works will help ensure Ennerdale Leisure Centre can continue to serve the community for many years to come.

Background information
Ennerdale Leisure Centre is currently undergoing a significant £750,000 investment to improve its energy efficiency, these improvements will help secure the centre’s long-term future.
The improvements at Ennerdale Leisure Centre are being funded by the government’s Sport England Swimming Pool Support Fund and will significantly enhance the centre’s environmental performance and financial sustainability.
Works include upgrading the pool hall windows to highly efficient glazing and new pool covers, whilst wider works include a package of essential maintenance works including the repairs to the small pool to allow it to reopen to the public. Complementing this, we will commit funds through its capital budget to support planned preventative roof maintenance and the replacement of external doors.
Customers
If you are a regular customer at Ennerdale Leisure Centre we encourage you to visit our other leisure facilities in the city, which will remain open throughout this period. The closest Leisure sites to Ennerdale Leisure Centre is Beverley Road Baths and Woodford Leisure Centre.
Additionally, we have relocated many of our activity programmes at Ennerdale Leisure Centre to other sites to ensure there is sufficient capacity for our Ennerdale customers.
Check available bus routes to access all leisure facilities around the city.
