Looking for a fun and unique day out with family and friends? Discover the wild side of Hull with a visit to the Animal Education Centre and Pickering Park Aviary

Enjoy FREE entry and meet a variety of amazing animals and birds – from the curious meerkats at Pickering Park to the chatty parrots and new Shetland ponies at the Animal Education Centre.  

Join us for FREE daily keeper talks throughout the summer holidays:  

  • Animal Education Centre: 11.30am and 2.30pm 
  • Pickering Park Aviary: Watch a meerkat feed and keeper talk at 1pm. 
  • Free minibeast fact trail, taking place daily at both Animal Education Centre and Pickering Park Aviary.
  • Free colouring and puzzle activities, when the crafts events are not running.

Get Crafty this Summer at Hull Zoo's

This summer, join us as the Animal Education Centre and Pickering Park Aviary, for a celebration of Beetles, Bugs and Butterflies!

Decorate a variety of bug-themed crafts, starting from just £1. The crafts will be alternated each week, one week bug themed crafts followed by the next week butterfly themed.promotion for aec

Starting on Monday 21 July until Friday 28 August, excluding 15 and 18 August.

Healthy Holiday's Summer at Hull Zoo's

Hull Culture and Leisure are proud to work with Hull City Council and its partners on the Healthy Holidays Summer programme for 2025. Funded by Hull City Council and the Department of Education as part of the Holiday Activities and Food programme, Healthy Holidays Summer 2025 offers a range of different free and low-cost activities for young people and families across the summer holidays. Below you'll be able to find our Healthy Holidays sessions at Hull Zoo's! 

Places on our booked sessions are limited, so make sure you secure your place here! Please make sure to mention any allergies or dietary requirements in your booking as a free packed lunch is provided on all our booked courses.

Discover a whole new way to explore Hull Parks Zoos! 

Our Zoo Explorers sessions bring the wonder of the zoo to life through dance, stories, crafts, and imaginative play. It’s a fun, creative adventure for young children and their grown-ups to enjoy together. 

Designed for children aged 7 and under, these sessions are funded by the Healthy Holidays Activities Programme. 
All participating children will receive a free packed lunch to keep their energy up for the day’s adventure!

Get ready for a summer full of wild, creative fun with Animal Antics at East Park and Pickering Park! 

Each week brings a brand-new animal-themed adventure, with exciting crafts, games, and nature activities designed to spark curiosity and creativity. 

  • Free family fun – but places are limited, so book now to secure your spot! 
  • Recommended for ages 4–12 
  • All participants receive a free packed lunch, thanks to the Healthy Holidays Activities and Food Programme. 

Week 1: Nature Crafts

Use natural materials to create your own magnificent works of art. 

  • East Park: Wednesday 23rd July, 11am – 1pm 

  • Pickering Park: Friday 25th July, 11:30am – 1:30pm 

Week 2: Beautiful Butterflies

Butterfly-themed crafts and Butterfly ID activities, linking in with the Big Butterfly Count. 

  • East Park: Monday 28th & Wednesday 30th July, 11am – 1pm 

  • Pickering Park: Friday 1st August, 11:30am – 1:30pm 

Week 3: Paint Me a Picture

Nature-themed painting fun and more butterfly spotting for the Big Butterfly Count. 

  • East Park: Monday 4th & Wednesday 6th August, 11am – 1pm 

  • Pickering Park: Friday 8th August, 11:30am – 1:30pm 

Week 4: Minibeast Madness

Go on a minibeast hunt and get creative with insect-themed crafts in this bug-tastic week of fun! 

  • East Park: Monday 11th & Wednesday 13th August, 11am – 1pm 

  • Pickering Park: Friday 15th August, 11:30am – 1:30pm 

Week 5: Brilliant Bats

Take flight with bat-themed crafts and activities perfect for curious young minds. 

  • East Park: Monday 18th & Tuesday 19th August, 11am – 1pm 

  • Pickering Park: Friday 22nd August, 11:30am – 1:30pm 

Week 6: Recycling Crafts

Let your creativity shine with eco-friendly crafts using scrap and recycled materials. 

  • East Park: Wednesday 27th & Thursday 28th August, 11am – 1pm 

  • Pickering Park: Friday 29th August, 11:30am – 1:30pm
